Wat Yai Chaimongkol - This monastery was constructed in the reign of King U-Thong. King Naresuan the Great commanded the pagoda built to celebrate the victory of his single-handed combat on elephant back. He wanted the huge construction to follow in the example of the large pagoda of Wat Phukhao Thong, thus naming it "Phra Chedi Chaiyamongkol"
Wat Phra Si Sanphet - The largest temple complex in Ayutthaya, now in ruins, boasts striking architecture and fascinating images of a once great city.
Vihara Phra Mongkol Bopit - The modern building houses a huge seated Buddha Image dating from the 15th century.
Wat Chai Watanaram - Another striking monastery located to the west of the Island City. King Prasat Thong commanded it to be built. Although now abandoned, the existing Main Prang and surrounding pagodas show the grandeur and past golry of this monument.
