Sofitel Central Hua Hin Resort is located on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand 190 kms south of Bangkok. Set amidst 16 hectares of private gardens the hotel is a celebration of days gone by.

It was designed by Italian architect A Rigazzi and built by the State Railway of Thailand as the Kingdom's first resort hotel.

It opened on 26th October 1922 as the two-storey Railway Hotel, made of bricks and wood with 14 bedrooms, a lobby lounge, bar, restaurant and large verandah at the birth of Thailand's tourist industry.

It quickly became known as the most luxurious hotel in the region. Gourmet European food was served on elegant Western style china, which like the silverware used, bore the emblem of the State Railways of Thailand.

The hotel has also starred in two movies, The Quest with Jean-Claude Van Damm and more famously as Hotel Le Phnom in The Killing Fields.

The decor is rich polished hardwood softened by the warm tones of Thai silk, in a style evoking the spirit of 1920s.
