Developed as a part of the Royal Angkhang Research Station, under the Royal Project Foundation, Angkhang Nature Resort is situated a comfortable three hour drive from Chiang Mai.

Its mountain location, cool climate and the scenic beauty of the surrounding countryside make it the ideal getaway for nature lovers to enjoy birdwatching, trekking, mountain-biking or simply breathing in the fresh mountain air.

The Royal Angkhang Research Station was set up in 1969 under the auspices of His Majesty King Bhumibol.

It is primarily a research centre focusing on crop substitution to develop new crops for the Hill tribes.

The result is a wider variety of marketable produce and sustainable income in a region which was previously cash-poor and dependent on growing illegal opium as its major source of income.

The organic methods employed by the Royal Project have had great success. Western berries for example thrive in the cool, mountain climate.

As commented by His Serene Highness, Prince Bhisadej Rajani, "The Royal Angkhang Research Station is a prime example of man working with nature instead of against her."

The Angkhang Nature Resort offers 72 standard rooms and 2 suites.

Each is furnished in teak wood, decorated with local Thai fabrics and has a spacious private balcony from which to enjoy the view. The rooms offer modern facilities including mini-bar, T.V., and IDD telephone.

The Camellia Restaurant serves delicious and nutritious Thai, Northern Thai and Western specalities using fresh vegetables, fruit and herbs from the Royal Project.

Both the indoor and outdoor seating offer spectacular views of the sunset and over the surrounding countryside.

The Angkhang region is a trove of natural treasures. The invigorating mountain air, the fresh, cool climate, the breathtaking scenery and the quiet of the countryside all make for a rejuvenating break from the city.
