GREETINGS FROM KRABI
PAGE 5
Although you don’t have direct view of the sea or beach access, the setting
can certainly be called very natural, relaxing and almost rurally romantic.
Evidently, all of this only applies as long as there’s no further big development
on adjacent plots of land.
The resort has 59 air-conditioned rooms located in a line of three storey
buildings that fit quite nicely into the natural tropical environment.
The 33 Superior Rooms have a terrace and offer garden or mountain view.
This room type features shower, mini-bar, satellite TV and air-conditioning.
The 26 Deluxe Rooms are bigger and have terrace or balcony overlooking
the swimming pool and the garden. Deluxe rooms have shower only, hairdryer,
tea and coffee making facilities. |

Safety boxes are available at the reception. There’s a pool bar and a swimming pool. The main restaurant is overlooking a pond, a nearby hill and the fields. |
Walking further down Railay East Beach takes you past rock-climbing shops, rock shops
(selling climbing gear and accessories rather than rocks) and assorted open-air pubs and bars,
more aptly characterized as hangouts. Dreadlocked locals with faded half-long jeans and
sleeveless shirts were writing cocktail and food specials on boards in the searing sun. Sound
systems played on full levels; if the noise did not cause you acoustic organ failure the vibration
from the speakers could literally knock you out of your shoes. Most played artist evidently
is Bob Marley who is in one place still boasting about having shot the Sheriff while elsewhere
superfluously confirming that the Sun is shining. A five minutes’ walk through the area takes
you through a much different, chilled and less clean Krabi. An area that may be less classy
than others but nevertheless with a considerable following. You are not coming hear to ponder
the planet’s problems (or solutions thereof), you’re here to chill, to party and believe in
peace. One is even tempted to believe Bob and his Wailers are indeed still cooking CDs over
in Kingston, Jamaica.
And on a more serious and professional note, I noticed about 3 Automatic Teller Machines along Railay East. You no longer have to go to Ao
Nang to withdraw money.

The Anyavee Railay Resort has somehow
existed in form of 23 wooden Cottages for a
while. There will soon be 3 more Family
Rooms as well as 36 Standard Rooms, both
located in various 2-storey buildings. Very
little information is available on this property.
I was told that they open in November; and
from looking at the site, I believed them.
I wasn’t particularly impressed with the location
and the environment. Even though
Railay East is the sunrise side of Railay, it is
not a beach for swimming. And the resort’s
neighborhood consists of bars and restaurants.
I trust we have to wait and see how
the hotel looks once completed and open. |

| Right after the Anyavee Railay Resort there
is walkway to the left, leading uphill to what
a signboard promised to be the Diamond
Cave Resort & Spa. The property can be
reached within a two minutes’ walk; even
though haven’t climbed mountains, you still
feel positively relieved from Railay’s chilled
busyness and noise; even the air is better
here. |

Diamond Cave Resort started off 10 years ago with non-air-conditioned bungalows.
They still have them, along with some cottages
that are air-conditioned. Within the
last 2-3 years, a building was added that now houses the reception/lobby, a minimart as well as the resort’s newer room types.
The Diamond Cave Resort now has 100 rooms. There are 20 bungalows with fan and 40 air-conditioned bungalows (also featuring fan). These only have shower and either kingsize bed or twin-beds (I even saw two queen-size beds). The Diamond Rooms are quite spacious and have either kingsize bed or two queen-size beds. This room-type, too, has shower only. There is a swimming pool, a restaurant, a mini-mart and a spa. The resort may be suitable for people who like to mingle with the party crowds at nights but also like to stay a bit away from noise during day time. One aspect I may have to bring to your attention is the fact that I only saw one staff during the walk-around in the hotel; I am not sure if this is a sign of danger or evidence that the payrollers are just unobtrusively/ invisibly doing their job.
