With its excellent hotel accommodations, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai
are popular tourist destinations for both golfing and exploring nature. |
|
Day 1: Fly to Chiang Mai from Bangkok (one hour)
and discover why it's known as the "Rose of the North".
Drive to the top of Doi Suthep to the revered temple that
affords stupendous views of the city. Then explore old Chiang
Mai, its moats, city walls and alluring old temples, particularly
Wat Phra Singh. In the evening, treat yourself to a khan take
dinner, the northern style of dining seated on the floor,
to the accompaniment of traditional music and dance.
|
Day 2:
Our golf begins with a round at the oldest course, Lanna
Golf Club, a tough 27-hole layout packed with mature
trees to provide shade and a challenge. Later take a trip down
Handicraft Highway, the road to Sankamphaeng where you can see
many traditional crafts carried out in villages: painted umbrellas,
nielloware, wood and silver pieces. Buy some now, or later as
you wander through Chiang Mai's famous Night Bazaar. |
Day 3:
A challenge awaits at Chiangmai Green
Valley Country Club, one of the longest courses in the
region, about 30 minutes from the city. Lots of bunkers and
water add to the difficulty. In the evening, relax at one of
the attractive restaurants alongside the Ping River, or book
a gentle dinner cruise. |
Day 4:
Rise early for an adventure day with a 80-km drive to Chiang
Dao elephant camp, to see the animals in their natural environment,
go trekking and watch them bathing. Drive on to Thaton for lunch
at the Maekok River Village Resort, where you can take a raft
far the three- hour journey down river to Chiang Rai, stopping
at a hilltribe village. Overnight in Chiang Rai. |
Day 5:
A 20-minute drive takes you to one of Thailand's mast beautiful
courses, Santiburi Country Club,
designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Set in the foothills around
Chiang Rai, this friendly course is more difficult than it looks
with sloping lies, water and many dog-legs. Take lunch at the
clubhouse before catching the flight back to Bangkok. |
