Air Asia Takes to the Skies of Thailand

Just a month after the launch the Thai subsidiary of the Malaysian owned Air Asia has just started flying from Bangkok to Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hat Yai. The airline operates a fleet of all Boeing 737-300 aircraft, the current work horse of the aviation industry. Fare start from 500 baht and vary according to the day and time of travel. Flights departing in the middle of the day mid week tend to have the lower fares.

This is a no frills airline, basically a bus in the sky and to obtain the lowest fares passengers can make their reservation on line at www.airasia.com. It’s a simple six step procedure that takes about 45 seconds to complete. At each stage there are simple instructions to guide a passenger through the procedure which we found to be user friendly. Step one is to select the cities and dates of travel. The display shows departure and arrival times for all flight and the fare applicable. Simply click on the desired flights and the itinerary displays with any fare rules and restrictions that may be applicable. Passengers are asked to read them and once they understand any conditions that may apply they are asked to click on the confirmed icon.

Having selected the flights the next step is to type first and last name as they appear on your passport. Then your credit card details, billing address plus telephone, fax and e-mail contacts. It’s only possible to make an online reservation using a credit card as the form of payment.

With the purchase completed passengers are then asked if they wish to receive a copy of their itinerary by e-mail. Finally having clicked on the purchase icon the full itinerary appears on the screen with a confirmation number. Passengers are asked to print out to use at the airport for check in. It’s a totally electronic purchase process and no paper ticket is issued. That’s all part of keeping the costs down.

It’s a really simple user friendly procedure but if you aren’t a computer geek you can call Thai Air Asia call centre on 0-2515-9999 to make a reservation in old way, but you won’t be getting the cheapest fare.
