Angsana Spa

The name of the spa is taken from the exotic Angsana Tree. A tall tropical tree found in the rain forests of Asia. Its noticeable due its crown of golden, fragrant flowers which burst into bloom unexpectedly for a day, then close, and bloom again suddenly.

The Angsana teaches one to live life spontaneously, to sense the moment and savour time as it passes in exorably.

On a recent visit to Angsana Spa Sheraton Grande Phuket I tried their Natural Thai Herbal Wrap. Lying naked face down on a batik-covered table Nong discreetly unwrapped sections of my body and slow slapped Thai white mud or Din Sor Porng onto my body. As I was floating away the line of the song “Mud, mud glorious mud, there is nothing quite like it for cooling the blood”. It was messy but it felt so good and now could understand the pleasure of a mud bath. Having had the four segments of my back covered I was asked to turn over so the same was done to my front. Covered head to in a white emulsion of mud, she lifted the sheet, averted her eyes and asked to take a shower.

What a mess I was in and took a good five minutes to wash of the now dried skin of mud. With my pores now open to receive the massage oil I climbed back onto the bed for my Maui massage. It has all the grace of an Hawaiian dance long rhythmic stokes that felt like a wave as the worked their way over my shoulders. She could sense my tolerance limit and managed to make the massage firm enough to stretch it a little further. What initially felt a little discomfort quickly change to strokes of pleasure.
