Thailands wine industry is about a decade old. It started with Chateau de Loei in the north, followed by Champtemp to the south of Bangkok in the Chao Phraya Delta. But the area that now seems to be a center for wine growing is the Khao Yai National Park. Not does only produce wine and grape juices it has become the center for wine tourism, easily accessible being a little over an hours drive north of Bangkok. One of several wineries in the area offering tours is GranMonte Family Vineyards in Asoke Valley, Khao Yai and conveniently lies adjacent to Khao Yai National Park. Asoke Valley is known in Thailand for the beautiful yellow blossom flower that is special to the region of Khao Yai. The serene atmosphere and truly beautiful surroundings of Asoke Valley, Khao Yai provides a perfect environmental setting for the GranMonte Vineyards. Blending with its natural environment, the beautiful surroundings of Khao Yai has inspired the brand name "GranMonte", which also translates as "big mountain". At 350 metres above sea level and in an area of about 100 rai (approximately 40 acres) situated in a valley, GranMonte has all the right microclimate conditions ideal for growing high quality grapes especially for wine making. The wine grapes produced on our arable land are of different varieties including Shiraz, Tempranillo, Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Our table grapes come in many varieties with or without seeds such as Muscat of Alexandria and Hamburg, Thomson seedless, Perlette and GranMonte seedless. The Winery offers complementary guided tours of the vineyards and shop. The specially organised tours can be arranged by prior appointment for the weekend only. The shop is opened weekdays and weekend. GranMonte Vineyards is a family estate and we welcome all visitors with friendly, hospitable service. We want our guests to enjoy the beautiful surroundings for a truly memorable experience. With wine and grape juice tasting GranMonte Family Vineyards invites you to explore the scenic surroundings of the Asoke Valley. The easiest access to the GranMonte Vineyards from Bangkok is via the Mitrapab Highway. GranMonte Vineyards is located pass Muaklek and 12km in the direction of Tambon Phya Yen, Pakchong. (Visitors can take note of visible landmarks such as the Whirlpool sign on the Mitrapab Highway, and then take a left turn towards Tambon Phya Yen). Whatever you may think of the wine, and dont go expecting too much its another interesting alternative day out or weekend away from Bangkok.
