Restaurant of the Month - La Scala at The Sukhothai Hotel

The interior of La Scala has a unique Thai style Italian feel with a minimum design philosophy. The boldest element has to be the open kitchen set in the middle of the restaurant. The intention to allow a free flow with the guests and to be the 'stage' for memorable dining experiences.

In charge of the kitchen if Chef Angello Rottoli, from Varese in northern Italy and discovered a passion for cooking while watching his mother in the kitchen. When planning his menu he was very careful to make sure that it was typically Italian, without any fusion or foreign influences. As expected a lot of home made pasta, entrees a refreshing complement of classic and modern cuisine. Some great fish such as oven roasted turbot with fennel, black olives and dill.

To complement the classic Italian cuisine, Restaurant Manger Florian Saunders has put together an impressive wine list that he believes to be the best choice to match the menu. One of his innovations is the way he serves wine by the glass. The wine is served in a container best described as a combination of a vodka glass and a test tube. When service white wines its placed in a glass beaker of ice. Thus ensuring that even when you are drinking wine by the glass it can always be perfectly chilled.
