Beating the traffic in Bangkok is always a challenge and the BTS Skytrain has played a significant part in easing the way we can travel around the city. Saphan Taksin Station adjacent to Sathorn Pier has become the hub for traveling to the major riverside hotels. Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa has a complimentary shuttle every 30 minutes. As access to Peninsula Bangkok has been an issue they quickly identified the need to shuttle their guests across the river and what is possibly the most stylish boat. Then recently The Oriental started a shuttle boat service every 10 minutes. Skytrain and boat is the comfortable combination for easy travel around Bangkok. Just last weekend they introduced a numbering system for each of the BTS stations. The northern route from Siam to Morchit all have the N pre-fix; east from Siam to Oh Nut has the E-prefix, south from Siam to Saphan Taksin S and the one stop from Siam to the National Stadium W. For anyone staying with easy access to Sky train wanting to visit the Grand Palace, China Town or the Old Town, take the train to Saphan Taksin and hop on an Express Boat heading up river to Tha Chang River Pier, not only is it a nice ride but it only cost 10baht and takes just over 20 minutes. I dread to think how long the journey would take by taxi, even if you could find a driver who could understand where u wanted to go. |
