Being Spa

Located
in a converted Thai family house, Being Spa is currently the only real
stand alone Spa in Bangkok with nine treatment rooms. It offers a combination
of modern and Thai treatments in homely relaxed style. The guest feels
more comfortable here than they would in the formality of a spa in a
hotel.
The whole experience is designed
to make one relax, tasteful traditional wooden furniture from Chiang
Mai, teak floors from Auythaya and cotton fabrics from Bali. The setting
is the home were we all would enjoy to live.
Most of the therapists come from
a beauty industry background and trained at the Spa three to four months
before the opening to perfect the being style.
To start I had a Thai Herbal Body
Glow full-body scrub a blend of Thai herbs and natural aromatic oils
to revive dry and devitalized skin. As somebody put a body scrub before
a massage tenderizes the skin before the treatment to increase its benefit.
Then I had a shower bed, lying face down on a treatment bed with four
sprinkler heads equally spaced above me. It was like taking a shower
in warm lying in rain a very calming, relaxing sensual experience. Lying
there I felt the water gently helping to improve my circulation.
Tenderized and cleaned , steamed
parcels of Thai herbs (prai, turmeric, lemongrass and bergamot peel)
in a muslin bag where applied to my back and shoulder at first and gradually
all over my body. The first time that they touch the skin they felt
a little hot but after a short while I got used to the sensation and
they did help relax the muscles. Then I had an aromatherapy oil massage
with long firm sweeping stokes which I find more comfortable than a
traditional Thai massage which can be painful. Had I been paying it
would have cost Baht 3,200 (about fifty pounds) but how I felt afterwards
was wonderful, balanced, relaxed and an increased feeling of self-worth.

"Men
come to the Spa to relax" commented Khun Ukrid, "whereas women come
here to be pampered. We get a lot of repeat customers and new ones come
by word of mouth. Our aim is to be the ultimate experience, more than
just a massage."
The Spa word seems to be the vogue
in the hospitality industry but what is that makes a spa rather than
just a massage parlour. "The elements it should include are," he went
onto explain, "health, beauty and relaxation."
