Welcome to this month's issue and our theme is where to out for night entertainment
"One night in Bangkok and the world's my oyster" was once the unofficial theme song of The City of Angels. But now it does seem to becoming less and less appropriate. There was a time when you could arrive in the evening and drink and party until dawn. Today if your flight lands after 10pm you could hit the city just as the shutters are going down.
Recently there has been much controversy over the emotive issue of closing time of entertainment establishments. Currently all bars must close by 2am but the sale of alcohol is banned in convenience stores from midnight until 6am.
As of 1st July 2004 there will be three official entertainment zones in Bangkok - Patpong, Ratchadapisek and Royal City Avenue (RCA). Existing entertainment venues will be allowed to continue operating but no new entertainment licenses will be issued outside of those three areas. Is it consolidation or a reduction in choice, only time will tell?
Here is my take on the current entertainment scene in Bangkok.
Wherever you decide to go, enjoy
